CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairman Curtis Ratliff at 4:00 p.m II. CITIZEN COMMENTS No citizens were present to speak. III. OATH OF OFFICE New member, Janet Perkins was sworn into the Grapevine Heritage Foundation. After 26 years in Marketing, Janet retired from Verizon in 2006. She has worked with Texas A & M University and continues to write grants for both A & M and Verizon. Janet presently has a proposal in process for the Grapevine Heritage Foundation. Board members Rick Lawlis, Curtis Ratliff, Melva Stanfield and Balla Wright were sworn in for their renewed terms. 1 July 18,2012 GHF Meeting 07.18.12 IV. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The Board of Directors elected Melva Stanfield as the Foundation's Vice-President, Patricia Stinson as Secretary and Balla Wright as Treasurer. V. APPROVAL OF THE MAY 16, 2012 MINUTES Melva Stanfield moved to approve the April 18, 2012 minutes as written. Jacob Miles seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote of: Ayes: All Nays: None VI. OLD BUSINESS A. Membership Development Committee Rick Lawlis reported the June 1 membership drive had shown significant numbers in renewals. Chairman Ratliff thanked Rick for his work chairing the Membership Committee; Patricia Stinson will now chair the Membership Committee for one year. Rick told all he would be available to help and asked all to "Keep on the Trail" bringing new members into the Foundation. B. Nash Farm Committee Update 1. Recommendation to restore the cistern to a period appropriate brick Melva Stanfield reported the Nash Farm Committee had voted to remove the existing brick from the cistern and to replace with the period-appropriate brick they have in storage. She asked the Foundation's Board of Directors to consider for approval. Balla Wright moved to restore the cistern with the period appropriate brick. Don Vaughn seconded the motion which prevailed in a vote of: Ayes: All Nays: None 2. City Attorney, Matthew Boyle update on Nash Farm law suit Matthew Boyle reported the suit is now in status quo until a decision is reached. He is continuing to work towards the Soil Conservation Office finding a home at the Farm and addressing a few issues for good will. He did not anticipate any changes in the fence and where reason could be had he would continue working to achieve the pursuit of the planned educational exhibits. Mathew told the board he would return after the suit's final agreement to report the outcome. Melva reported on the Nash Farm May thru mid-July events with the Produce Canning class of 15 attendees, the school and group tours and the July Farmhand Recruitment Ice Cream Social. The committee continues to work on the 2 July 18,2012 GHF Meeting 07.18.12 development of the interpretive programming with research, the recording of and how to tell the story of the Farm with their focus on accuracy. Chairman Ratliff thanked the Accession Committee, Balla Wright, Don and Barbara Vaughn, Mike Lease and Sandy Rosenstein for their dedication and hard work in chronicling the historic treasures of the Farm. Balla asked for a round of applause for Don and Barbara for their hard work and the value of their expertise with the Ima Hogg Collection. Pat Stinson moved to accept the Accession reports and recommendations. Sue Franks seconded the motion prevailing in a vote of: Ayes: All Nays: None DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS A. Grapevine Historical Society Liaison Report-Carolyn Ernst, President Carolyn Ernst reported on the photograph of the whole town of Grapevine at the drilling of an oil well, waiting for the "gusher" to come in. They have removed it from the wall of the Depot museum where it was nailed and had suffered water damage leaving it adhered to the glass of the frame; it will be taken to Fort Worth for a museum quality restoration and digital copying. The frame will be saved, this important record of Grapevine as an oil producing community will be archived. With the fundraising for the new museum building and readying for the move they did not report July's attendance at this time. Carolyn reminded the Grapevine Heritage Foundation Board of the September 28 "All Stars Sock Hop"fundraiser; heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 and tax deductible. B. Grapevine Convention &Visitors Bureau Liaison Report-Paul W. McCallum P.W. McCallum reported the month of July was a heavy time for the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) with budget planning presented to the City Manager's Office to be reviewed by City Council in August. The CVB Sales Team had an extremely good summer recruiting group business. The group and leisure business has pushed out into rooms sold in smaller hotels. Hotel rates booked in the low point of the recession are lower, but this business is welcomed through out the city as it spills out over into Grapevine's restaurants and shopping. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad's ridership has been really strong. In August, the CVB will partner with the Dallas Convention &Visitors Bureau to host a group of the nation's most prestigious CEO's. Grapevine will host the Poker Run and their golf tournament at the Cowboys Golf Course. P.W. told of rediscovering a Volume I, Issue I copy of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation's Vintage newspaper with a story submitted by Thelma Connine. Thelma wrote of the year 1914, she was nine years old when she saw her first airplane as it was flying over Grapevine, Texas. Thelma was plowing as she watched the airplane flying in 3 July 18,2012 GHF Meeting 07.18.12 circles above; her father called to her to "get off that row". In the excitement of seeing her first airplane in flight, Thelma had plowed the same row three times! Don Vaughn asked P.W. how the Marriott acquisition of the Gaylord Texan would affect the hotel and our city. P.W. said the Gaylord group had reorganized to real estate investments. Marriott purchased the management rights, keeping the Gaylord name, for an 18-20 year period for$292 million. He saw this as primarily all on the upside for the Texan as the Marriott rewards program comes with many corporate and loyalty rewards to book meeting after meeting; they also have the largest national sales network property rotation. The business and leisure traveler will become very Marriott driven, the future is positive. P.W., Mike Lease and Sue Franks did an inspection tour of the Palace Arts Center with Cheri Christensen. They were all in agreement and impressed with Cheri's skill and knowledge of the business. Sue agreed to get volunteer help, all members should help her connect with any contacts they have. Don Vaughn again thanked Mike Lease and Sandy Rosenstiel for their help on the Nash Farm Accession documents. VII. ADJOURNMENT Don Vaughn put forth the motion to adjourn the meeting.
