SUBJECT: GRAPEVINE DEPOT, HOTEL AND PARKING GARAGE SITE
GEOTECH INVESTIGATION SERVICES
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider approval of a professional services contract with Fugro USA Land,
Inc. for Geotechnical Investigation Services on the depot, hotel and parking garage site.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this contract is currently available in account 177-48810-122-001-17004
(Commuter Rail Station, Land Improvements) for an estimated amount of $43,100.00.
BACKGROUND:
With the demolition of the facilities on the site of the future depot, hotel and parking garage
underway, subsurface investigation will follow immediately after the demolition and haul
off is complete.
The scope of services meets the request of the structural engineer who will be preparing
the structural design for the depot and hotel and includes 17 borings up to 100 feet in
depth, soil sampling and testing.
The report shall include:
• Plan of borings, boring logs, laboratory test results and water level observations
• Local geology and soil conditions
• Swell potential of the on-site soils
• Geotechnical recommendations for:
o Foundation type, depth an design parameters for bearing capacity
o Design parameters for lateral load analysis (Lpile)
o Foundation construction considerations
o Grade beam and pier caps
o IBC seismic site class
o Suspended floor slab and void space
o Subgrade preparation procedures for slab-on-grade construction
o Basement wall design parameters
o Asphalt and concrete pavement sections
o Earthwork
o Site grading, drainage and landscaping
Staff recommends approval.
