GRAPEVINE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY BOARD
(11Pr January 5, 2001
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met on January 5,2001 at 2 P.M.at the Grapevine Senior
Activities Center.
The following board members were present
Dr.Edith Pewitt-Chair Dorothy Kritz
Miriam Bahner -Secretary Lloyd Latta
Irvin Bowling Tricia Wood
Harlan Jewett
Edith introduced Bobbie Cherry and Debra Wells. She also welcomed Harlan Jewett back on the board.
The minutes were considered and approved.
Linda gave an update on the transportation program which is now called the Grapevine Senior Movers.
She said that Roger Nelson would be presenting the program to the City Council on January 9,2001.
The need for volunteer drivers was discussed and Edith said that she would make it a priority to find
drivers. Clydene suggested contacting businesses,churches,etc.for possible volunteers.
Linda said that they are looking into grants to help pay for a coordinator and possibly a van that is
wheelchair accessible. Having a fund raiser was also suggested as a means of raising the necessary funds.
41W Mark Elder,ombudsman and chaplain at Grapevine Baylor Hospital and is also on the Grace board will be
asked to speak at one of our board meetings.
The speaker for this month from the new Senior Housing Project was not contacted_ She will be asked to
come and present the project in February and we will ask the Grapevine Postmistress to come to speak at
our March meeting.
The Senior Fair was discussed. It was suggested that we try to get the Palace Theater to hold it which is
supposed to be finished by April 23,2001. Suggestions for entertainment were the Senior Center choir
accompanied by Bernice Hatcher and/or Mary Louise Spangler. Organizations would be contacted to set
up displays. It was suggested that we use the Senior Center parking lots for additional parking and give
tours of the Center and transport the people to the Palace Theater with the Senior bus.
It was reported that there is money available to pay for daycare of people with Alzheimers. People
needing this service should call Linda Gregory to get connected to the right source.
Edith will ask Jennifer to write an article in the Grapevine Newsletter about the needs of seniors.
The next meeting will be held on February 2,2001 at 2 P.M. at the Grapevine Seniors Activities Center_
The meeting was adjourned at 2:50 P.M.
