The minutes were considered and approved. Harlan brought up some traffic problems that possibly could be helped with left turning lights at those intersections. Bruno gave him the name of the person to see about the problem. Linda gave an update on the Grapevine Senior Movers Program. She said that the program is ready to start as soon as they get a coordinator hired. They also need more volunteers. We had a discussion on the Senior Fair. It is scheduled for May 12, 2001 at 3 P.M. at the Palace Theater. There will be door prizes and entertainment preferably performed by seniors. The Senior Center choir will sing and other suggestions were given such as line and tap dancing, magic tricks, etc. Display tables will be available for organizations to use such as the Heritage Foundation, Baylor Hospital, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Homes, The Museum, and other organizations that provide things useful or of interest to seniors. An announcement of the fair and an invitation to attend will be put in the Grapevine Newsletter that comes out in April. There will be an open house at the Senior Center and the Palace Theater with a shuttle service running between the two places. A committee consisting of Edith Pewitt, Miriam Bahner, Jennifer Hibbs, Dorothy Kritz, Irvin Bowling was appointed. Edith will call the committee together to work on the plans. Linda Norwood, Postmistress of Grapevine spoke. She gave a brief history of growing up in Texas and going to work for the Post Office. She rose through the ranks working in various departments and cities. She eventually got into management and when there was an opening for postmistress in Grapevine, she applied and received the appointment of Postmistress of Grapevine and Southlake. She described the differences between the rural and city routes. She said there are a lot of openings for temporary rural carriers but they are not full time positions. They must use their own vehicles, have no uniform and are paid differently from the regular employees. It is very hard to fill these positions. The location of drop boxes was discussed and she gave the current locations of the drop boxes. She distributed some guides on consumer fraud, identity theft and misleading advertisements. She said that scams, fraud, chain letters, theft, etc. should be reported to the Postal Inspector, 4600 Mark 1V Parkway, Fort Worth, TX 76161. She said that she will provide literature for the senior fair in May. Cluster mailboxes for the delivery of mail in the newer neighborhoods instead of door to door delivery was discussed. She said that door delivery can be requested if you live alone and you have a statement from the doctor stating that you can not get out. Linda's phone number at the Post Office is 817-488-3343. The web page is netpost on line .www.usps.com or phone 1-800-usps.
