Cow GRAPEVINE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY BOARD
September 7, 2001
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met on September 7, 2001 at 2 P.M. at
the Grapevine Senior Activities Center .
The following members were present:
Edith Pewitt -Chair Viviene Douglas
Miriam Bahner- Secretary Doris Waite- Housing Authority
Representative
Irvin Bowling
Edith introduced and welcomed the following guests:
Sgt. Barry Bowling Clydene Johnson
Linda Gregory Lloyd Latta
Eileen Hinson Louise Luce
The minutes of the previous meeting were considered and approved.
A followup on the truck traffic problem on Wall St. was discussed by Sgt. Bowling. He
said that the signage on Wall St. will be updated. The Texas Dept. of Transportation and
the Grapevine Traffic Engineer will be asked to approve additional signs forbidding truck
traffic to be placed on Wall St. He also said that motorcycle police will be there to
enforce it.
He also said that a turning lane will be put in at the corner of Wall and Ball Streets and
Route 114 Business under the railroad bridge will be raised and widened.
Eileen discussed the Quality of Life Festival which she attended in August. They call
themselves The Ambassadors. They contact different organizations and businesses to get
speakers on topics such as nutrition, exercise, staying healthy, health problems etc. A
sheet giving the agenda for the August meeting was distributed to show the type of
topics discussed at their meetings. (A copy is with the official minutes.) It was
mentioned that perhaps something like this could be held at the Senior Center.
Linda gave the orientation for board members stressing the importance of each board
member reading the handbook.
Irvin brought up the Notch that some seniors fall under and the paying of taxes on Social
Security. Edith said that each person would have to contact their representatives
individually as this board doesn't take up Federal Government issues.
Linda gave a report on the Senior Movers Program showing the increases in volunteer
drivers, users signing up and riders using the service. It also showed the need for more
Cri volunteer drivers.
Linda also gave an update on the Glade housing project. It has not been started and it is
very indefinite as to when it will start. The cost of building the units is higher than what
the builder feels he can charge for rent for the units not subsidized and still make a profit.
The presentation that Eileen gave will be discussed next month as a possibility for a
Senior Forum.
Joe Moore will speak next month on Keeping Grapevine Beautiful.
The next meeting will be held on October 5, 2001 at 2 P.M. at the Grapevine Senior
Activities Center.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:17.
Respectfully submitted,
