The following members were present: Dr. Edith Pewitt —Chair Doris Waite Miriam Bahner - Secretary Trisha Wood Dorothy Kritz Others present: Linda Gregory Clydene Johnson Joe Moore Debra Wells Edith welcomed the visitors to the meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were considered and approved. There was a discussion about the lack of sidewalks in the city also the placing of lightpoles in the middle of the sidewalk on Main St. past College making it impossible for wheelchaire and scooters to stay on the sidewalk. They must go out in the street to continue. Clydene said that this is supposed to be corrected. Debra brought up the rough roadway on Wall St. and she said that she called in to the city about that morning. Edith introduced Joe Moore, Assistant Director, Parks& Recreation Dept. Joe spoke on what is being done to Keep Grapevine Beautiful. He talked about the tree planting program, composting, the worm farm, Jr. composting course and demonstration projects at various schools. There is a new employee working with pollution control and cleanup and storm water cleanup as people throw old oil, transmission fluid, etc. into the storm sewers. This pollution if not cleaned up will find its way into the water supply. There is a hazard waste program in operation for people to dispose of these and other hazard wastes in a proper way. There are environmental programs supported by the Garden Club and many other organizations and individuals. Education of people and a change of attitudes and habits would help to keep Grapevine beautiful and reduce the costs of cleanup. L $60,000 is awarded every 5 years to cities that have programs in place that do an (bov excellent job of taking care of pollution and keeping their cities beautiful. It will take everyone—organizations, businesses and individuals to rid Grapevine of Pollution and keep Grapevine Beautiful. The Senior Fair planning was postponed till January. Trisha said that Lou Pemberton spoke to Grace about the Glade housing project which is a retirement and assisted living housing with some units available for Section 8. They are supposed to be starting to build these units. It is thought that perhaps we could get him to speak at a future meeting even though we have tried unsuccessfully several times in the past. The next meeting will be held on January 4, 2002 at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center. The meeting was adjourned at 3:20 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Miriam A. Bahner Secretary
