The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 2 PM on June 5, 2007 at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center. The following members were present: Tena Burrell — Co-Chairperson Dorothy Kritz— Ex-officio, Grapevine Senior Activities Center Pat Frosch — Ex-officio, GRACE Marian Nicastro — Ex-officio Housing Authority Paul Ernst R. Bruce Walters, Acting Secretary Others present: Kaye Grayson, SAC Director Ted Ware — City Council Member Liaison Chris Smith — Recreation Superintendent, Parks and Recreation Those Not Present Dick Guckel - Chairperson Martie Chaplin — Secretary CW2. Welcome guests No guests were present. 3. Consideration of minutes for April 6, 2007 meeting Minutes were approved without any changes. 4. Citizen requests: There were no citizens' requests for consideration. 5. New business: a. Housing Authority Update — Marian Nicastro Marian informed the Board that the waiting list was opening up and efficiency apartments were available on a relatively short wait. The NC units have all been installed in time for the summer heat. She stated that things were going smoothly and they are requesting ideas on how to get more of the residents to use the SAC. Bingo has drawn good attendance. b. GRACE update — Pat Frosch Pat said GRACE is actively soliciting eligible recipients for the utility bill payment program. This offers to pay two monthly bills each summer to qualified seniors. Up to three caseworkers have been sent out to seek and sign people up. Pat also reported that the "Feed our Kids" program is off to a good start for the summer. When asked if Grace had enough volunteers Pat said that they have had good response including the kids that volunteer for the summer months. Marian Nicastro asked if there was someone who could help with the flowerbeds at the Housing Authority and there were several suggestions. c. Senior Activities Center update — Kaye Grayson Kaye reported that the health and fitness day went very well. There were about 25 vendors who participated and supplied door prizes, and an estimated 200 participants, which was a good increase from last year. One of the attractions was a group that matches pets with seniors and also helps with unwanted pets. Kaye reported that FOGSAC had donated $800 and the Center was able to purchase kitchen supplies, utility carts and a microwave. The Rotary Club donated a 40" HDTV with a DVDNCR player , which the Center has been able to put to good use. Kaye reminded the Board that Camp Wrinkle Ranch starts next week with only 4 openings available out of the maximum of 24 spots. The Center is having around 50 people for daily lunches, and water aerobics has started at Dove Pool and classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday. tre 6.
