Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:30 pm on August 1, 2017 at The REC of Grapevine. The following members were present: Tena Burrell, Co -Chairperson Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor Kay Blanding Isabelle Boyd Pam Price Linda Troeger, Housing Authority Maryann Waddell, GRACE Holly Meister Carey Miller Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison Those not present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Rhonda Madsen 2. Guests: Joe Macswain Terry Rhodes -Cantu 3. Consideration of minutes for June 6, 2017 meeting Approved 4. Citizen Requests Kay Blanding — Look at taking a tour at the Frisco Star. Isabelle Boyd — senior chorus is starting up this month and they already have a gig. 5. New Business a. Grapevine Housing Authority- Linda Troeger - Terry Rhodes -Cantu will be taking the GSCAB position for Grapevine Housing Authority, c. Maryann Waddell — GRACE -Friends and Family program: -Total clients: June 113 / July 115 -Total commodities delivered: June 80 / July 76 -Volunteer hours: June 57.5 / July (not totaled) -Total Matches: June 21 / July 22 -New Clients: June 0 / July 2 -New Commodities Clients: June 0 / July 2 -New Matches (senior with volunteer): June 1 / July 0 -New Volunteers: June 2 / July 1 -A lot of the seniors are moving out of the apartment complexes in Grapevine. -A Compass Christian Church group helped a senior with home and yard repairs and beautification. -A queen -sized bed frame, bedding and towels were delivered to a senior in need. -Meds were picked up and delivered to a senior in need. -Furniture from Graceful Buys was given and delivered by volunteers for 2 different senior clients. -This month volunteers helped a disabled client move furniture and helped pack a senior with moving needs. -Feed Our Kids is in full swing in various locations in Grapevine. This program calls upon local churches to prepare lunches for children in local apartment complexes throughout the summer. This bridges the gap for children who may not otherwise receive a lunch. -GRACE helps with the Back to School drive on August 5 at Grapevine High School. The drive helps provide new backpacks and school supplies to GRACE clients and those in need. GRACE also has clothing packets, socks and shoes. d. Duff O'Dell - City Council Member Liaison -City Council meeting tonight. -Starting budget workshops -Talked about Quality of Life projects -Bond Election involving; animal shelter, 2 new Fire stations, Heritage Bridge project, Golf course renovation and Dove Loop flooding issue. -Dog Park is coming along. e. Trent Kelley - Recreation Manager - August movie in the Courtyard at The REC for 4°i Friday Film -Carol of Lights will be moved to the front of City Hall for better viewing. -Fossil Fest is September 9- 24. Dinosaurs, digs and animatronics will be at the Botanical Gardens. -Baseball and softball will be starting up soon as 4 Oak Grove ballfields now have turf. -3 more weeks and camps will be done and the kids will be back to school. -IT switchover is happening this weekend. -The stairwell construction will start soon and will take 90 days to complete. e. Eileen Hinson - Active Adults -Have many Baylor partnerships; Falls Awareness will be held on Friday, September 22. Car Fit is Monday, September 25. Matter of Balance starts October 2 and is a 4 -week program that meets Mondays and Wednesdays for 2 hours. -Touring Lunch is Saturday, September 30, a progressive lunch touring 3 different senior living facilities all in Southlake. -Generations program: Big Brothers Big Sisters have had 23 to 25 applications from Active Adults. There will be training in August and the program will start in September. -Trent Kelley mentioned that The REC will be closed the week after Labor Day for deep cleaning. The REC is open on Labor Day from Sam to Spm. f Carey Miller -Empowering Seniors is on Friday, October 6; information will be at the Active Adult desk. 6. The meeting adjourned at 4:13 pm.
