Adjournment The next meeting of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation will be the Annual Membership meeting which will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Nash Farm in the Pole Barn, 626 Ball Street, Grapevine Texas. David Klempin Manager, Heritage Programs & Preservation October 18, 2017 STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Grapevine Heritage Foundation Advisory Board met at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau 2nd Floor Boardroom, 636 South Main Street, Grapevine, Texas 76051 for their regular scheduled monthly meeting. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. II. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Commission is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen Comments. 18 October 2017 October 18, 2017 III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Becky Hummer made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the September 20, 2017 meeting. Frances Jensen seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Wright, Perkins, Franks, Hummer and Jensen Nays: None Absent: (Stanfield and Stinson) OLD BUSINESS In the absence of Vice Chairman Melva Stanfield and Farm Manager Cody Jolliff, David Klempin gave the Nash Farm report. The Wrap -Up Meeting for the fall events is scheduled for Thursday, November 2, 2017. The Friday night Barn Dance was a success with all available tickets sold out yielding $2,600; the Pie Auction had 12 pies donated, totaling $680. Treasurer Balla Wright brought in $6,800 in sponsorships for the 2017 Fall Round -Up! event. Coupon sales were up 14 percent over last year and the Farm Store sold $760. Total 2017 gross income was $18,598 with previous income totals at $15,280 for 2016; and $7,908 for the year 2015. Heritage Preservation Programs Manager David Klempin said he had the Farm's schedule for duties while Farm Manager Cody Jolliff was out for his vacation time. Council Liaison Mike Lease asked for all contact information to be emailed to him. Treasurer Balla Wright noted the $6,800 total as stated in the Nash Farm report; Chairman Ratliff thanked and commended Treasurer Wright for her achievement in gaining sponsor donors to the Farm and sponsorships for the 2016 and 2017 events. Secretary Janet Perkins announced current membership for the foundation was 210 members and September donations were $1,500. Managing Director of Operations Paula Newman gave the Palace Arts Center update reporting the cleaning of the copper in the Lancaster had been completed and the next step would be Christmas spirit and decor for the arts center. The Christmas holiday schedule will feature seven music performances of Gentri: The Gentlemen Trio and Forever Young, noting they are comparable, and some prefer, to the Texas Tenors. Gentri and the winner of "Branson's Best New Show" Forever Young are also regulars on the Branson venue; trailers featuring the two groups at the Palace are now on You Tube and being played before the movies in the theater. All North Pole Express (NPX) trains for the 2017 season are sold out. NEW BUSINESS Chairman Ratliff reminded all The Grapevine Heritage Foundation's Annual Meeting of Membership will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at Nash Farm. This year's meeting will recap the events and progress made in the past year; and feature a Prairie Chicken dinner. Chairman Ratliff called on staff to present the 2 18 October 2017 October 18, 2017 proposed properties for the Foundation's Eleventh Annual Candlelight Tour of Homes to the board. The event will again sell tickets at the Ted R. Ware Plaza on Saturday, November 4, 2017, from 4 - 7 p.m. This year's homes will be east of Historic Main Street and two Historic Grapevine shuttles will circle continuously. Council Liaison Lease asked for notifications to be sent to neighboring historical groups. Frances Jensen will check for wristbands. Chairman Ratliff called for a motion. Sue Franks moved to approve the Eleventh Annual Candlelight Tour of Homes as presented; Balla Wright seconded the motion which prevailed in the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Wright, Perkins, Franks, Hummer and Jensen Nays: None Absent: (Stanfield and Stinson) A sign-up sheet was passed around for the board members. Chairman Ratliff urged all to support this foundation activity and noted it was a great selection of homes. All were reminded of the National Trust for Historic Preservation Conference in Chicago, Illinois on November 14-17, 2017. All reservations are made and sections selected were confirmed. DISTRIBUTION OF LIAISON REPORTS Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) - Paula Newman said the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) board meeting reported the Convention and Leisure Sales team had 49 sales leads with 73,000 potential room nights for a potential economic impact of $25 million. 15 groups were booked representing 14,700 room nights with an economic impact of $9 million. There were 13 site inspections representing 31,600 room nights and $20.7 million potential economic impact. The Visitor Information Center, Settlement to City and Depot welcomed 13,000 guests; over 138,000 brochures were distributed locally, statewide and nationally. Destination Services assisted eight groups including the eClinical Works conference, our second largest record attendance to the Snap-On Tools group. The Convention Center, Palace Arts Center, and Concourse hosted 51 events and booked 35 definites with an economic impact of $504,000. They also signed a contract with Amazon for all open dates on their calendar. The website had almost 115,000 visitors in August with the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, GrapeFest, and Christmas Capital of Texas North Pole Express as the top pages visited. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad had a total of 28 excursions for an August ridership of 4,200. The matching replacement carpeting for the second floor of the Palace Theatre was approved for funds from the Festival Funds for Historic Preservation by the CVB board. Chairman Ratliff called on member Sue Franks, who served as the GHF liaison to the CVB board, Sue added she appreciated their hospitality. 3 18 October 2017 October 18, 2017 Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) - David Klempin gave the update on the McPherson Farmhouse saying the exterior was being stabilized, the chimneys would begin the next week as the brick was to arrive the following day; the chimney brick used will be similar to the Nash Farmhouse's. Chairman Ratliff asked about the Blevin's House, David said there would be a sealed bid request for moving; City Council had approved the moving expenses. For those who had not viewed the house it is located at 2060 Continental, off of Kimball, in Southlake. Chairman Ratliff noted the assembly of TXRail cars had started. Balla Wright inquired as to the progress of the GHF 2018 calendar, David Klempin said it was complete and had gone to art with Scott Baker. Update —The Grapevine Heritage Foundation's Annual Meeting will be Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at Nash Farm and feature a Prairie Chicken Dinner. VI.
