SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE PURCHASE OF 250
DELLIWYSE MODEL P25 VIRTUAL DESKTOP ZERO CLIENT
DEVICES
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of a resolution for the purchase of 250 Dell/Wyse
model P25 virtual desktop zero client devices from Dell Marketing, LP through a contract
established by the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR)
Cooperative Contracts Program.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325-42281-101-13-0011
(Information Technology Upgrade/Replacement) for an amount not to exceed $72,500.
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made in accordance with a contract established with Dell
Marketing, LP by the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR)
Cooperative Contracts Program contract. Purchases through this program are
authorized under Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271, Subchapter D and
Texas Government Code Chapter 2054, Section 2054.0565 (b).
Bids were taken by the cooperative and a contract was awarded to Dell Marketing, LP.
Department staff reviewed the contract for specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would provide the best product and pricing for meeting the
needs of the City. The Cooperative Purchasing Agreement satisfies all bidding
requirements under the Texas Local Government Code.
This purchase request is for 250 Dell/Wyse Model P25 Virtual Desktop Zero client
devices. These devices will replace desktop personal computers for 250 City
employees. These devices will connect back to servers in our data center to give the
user a computing experience just like the personal computer without having the actual
computer under their desk. The virtual desktop style of computing is much more secure,
requires less manpower to support, is easier to upgrade and opens up new and
improved means for remote users to access data and applications.

CONTRACT PROGRAM AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
WHEREAS,DATE
the City of Grapevine, Texas is a local government in the State of
Texas and as such is empowered by the Texas Local l overn t Code, Chapter 271,
Subchapter D and Texas Government Coe Chapter 2054, Section 2054.05 ( ) to
make purchases under a state contract therefore satisfying any state law requiring local
governments to seek competitive i s for the purchase of the item; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas Department of Information Resources ( I )
Cooperative Contracts program is qualified purchasing program;
the City Grapevine, Texas can participate in the State of Texas DIR
Cooperative Contracts Program through membership in the Program and wishes to utilize
the contract meeting all State of Texas bidding requirements; and
WHEREAS, the State of Texas DIR has an established contract I - -1951
with Dell Marketing, LP for Computers and Related and r .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE II'T RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the purchase
with Dell Marketing, LP for 250 Virtual Desktop Zero Client Devices for an amount not to
exceed 72,50 . 0.
Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the purchase of said vices.
Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from n after the date of its
passage.
