IN ACCORDANCE WITH TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE, CHAPTER 551.001 et seq, ACTS OF THE 1993 TEXAS LEGISLATURE, THE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING AGENDA WAS PREPARED AND POSTED THIS 9th DAY OF JANUARY, 2018 AT 5:00 P.M. DIRECTORLIBRARY STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Library Board of the Grapevine Public Library of the City of Grapevine, Texas met in Regular Session on the 15th day of January, 2018 at 6:30PM in the Board Room, Grapevine Public Library, 1201 Municipal Way, with the following members present to -wit: Janice Cook Chairman Lynda Brown Member Susan Peabody Secretary Bruce Rider Member Fred Sheffler Member Debbie Venable Member constituting a quorum, with the following members of the City Staff: Janis Roberson Duff O'Dell Library Director City Council Liaison Janee Trasler, Board member, was not in attendance. CALL TO ORDER Janice Cook called the meeting to order at 6:33PM. Citizen Comments — None Janice Cook and Susan Peabody were unanimously re-elected to Chairman and Secretary of the board, respectively. Motion by Bruce Rider, seconded by Fred Sheffler, to approve the July 17, 2017 meeting minutes as written: Ayes: Unanimous Nays: None Update on Budget for 2017-2018 Janis stated that this budget has been approved. There was no formal action taken. Update on Grants Received Janis informed the board that the $9903 grant from the Best Buy Foundation has been used to purchase ten drones, three virtual reality kits, spare parts, and three laptops. The Texas Book Festival Grant of $2500 was used to purchase bilingual books (Spanish/English.) A $20,000 grant from the Hudson Foundation has been received to use for a program of experts on special topics of genealogy. The Friends of the Grapevine Library have given $10,454 to the library to purchase new display shelving, programming, a snowman suit, new tables and chairs for the Teen Zone, and STEM items for use in the Children's area. There was no formal action taken. Report on Quality of Life Request Janis informed the Board members that she has been authorized to take the monies from a O\Policy Manual\Board Guidelines for Minutes 2013 personnel attrition to create positions needed for the Bookmobile for two days a week (2 x 19 hours.) She will present this solution to the City Council for approval to go forward with the Bookmobile program. There was no formal action taken. Report on Libra 's 95th Anniversa Celebration Janis updated the board on the planned anniversary celebration around the theme of "Time Machine". The celebration of nine decades kicks off on March 31d with the 1920s. Each month will feature a different decade with different music, food, movies, etc. She is seeking period items to show in the locked display cabinet. She encouraged us to join in the fun. There was no formal action taken. Miscellaneous Reports and/or Discussions The Friends' fundraising was reported by Janis: the gallery of used books continues to bring donations, the Artisan Marketplace in December was the most profitable yet, 270 jigsaw puzzles (each used once) were donated to sell, and a new vendor for online books sales has been secured in addition to the existing vendor. Janis also informed the board of the planned retirement party for David with a reception for him in the program room on January 31 from 2:00- 4:OOPM. David Coulter's family will be attending, too. The next quarterly board meeting is scheduled for April 16, 2018 at 6:30PM ADJOURNMENT Bruce Rider, seconded by Debbie Venable, motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:05PM.
