HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 17 - Sidewalk and Intersection Improvements MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER 'Q -
MEETING DATE: FEBRUARY 6, 2018
SUBJECT: AWARD OF AN ENGINEERING SERVICES DESIGN
CONTRACT WITH DEOTTE ENGINEERING, INC. SIDEWALK
AND INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider:
• awarding an engineering services contract with DeOtte Engineering, Inc. in the
amount of $250,000 to perform project scoping and design services for sidewalk
and minor intersection safety improvements; and
• authorizing staff to execute said contract and take any necessary action.
FUNDING:
Funding of$250,000 is available in account 178-48830-000-000-180001.
BACKGROUND:
Staff has identified several intersection capacity and safe route to school projects to be
included in the capital plan as follows:
1. Northwest Highway at Texan Trail — intersection improvements
2. East Wall Street at South Main Street— intersection improvements
3. Eastbound Mustang Drive at William D. Tate Avenue — intersection improvements
4. Euless Grapevine Road (from State Highway 360 to Hughes Road) — intersection
improvements
5. Hughes Lane (from Timber Crest Court to State Highway 121) — sidewalk
improvements
6. Roberts Road (south of Hall Johnson Road) — sidewalk improvements
7. Hilltop Drive (Lucas Drive to Hilltop Apartments) —sidewalk improvements
8. Bushong Drive (Silverside Drive to Bayou Road) — sidewalk improvements
DeOtte Engineering, Inc. will provide surveying, franchise utility location, and
engineering services at these locations. Given the small scale of the projects, staff is
proposing an hourly, not to exceed contract based on the estimated work effort that will
allow the engineer and City staff to develop the most cost effective solution that meets
the needs at these locations. Staff would intend to add additional locations to this effort
if funding allows.
Depending on the final design, staff may construct some or all of these proposed
improvements in house.
Staff recommends approval.
