SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE SOLE SOURCE
PURCHASE OF A POLICE MOTORCYCLE
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of a resolution authorizing a sole source purchase of a
police motorcycle for the Police Department from Longhorn Harley-Davidson.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for this purchase is available in account 325-48910-209-002-180001 (Motor
Vehicles) for an amount not to exceed $33,420.
BACKGROUND:
This purchase is to replace a new police motorcycle that was totaled in a vehicle accident
on October 19, 2017. It is being made as a sole source due to being replaced by the
original vendor with the exact specifications as the new motorcycle that was wrecked at
the same value as purchased with all the added original police motorcycle options.
The purchase of this police motorcycle will be made as a sole source purchase from
Longhorn Harley-Davidson in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252,
Subchapter B, §252.022. General Exemptions (a) (3).
Staff recommends approval.

RESOLUTION NO. 2018-028
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
OR THE CITY MANAGER'S DESIGNEE TO PURCHASE OF
A POLICE MOTORCYCLE FOR THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT FROM A SOLE SOURCE VENDOR AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas is a local government in the State of
Texas and as such is empowered by Texas Local Government Code Chapter 252,
Subchapter B, § 252.022. General Exemptions (a)(3) to purchase a police motorcycle
for the Police Department on a sole source basis; and
WHEREAS, The Police Department has a need to replace a motorcycle that was
involved in an accident; and
WHEREAS, Longhorn Harley-Davidson was the original dealer for this type
motorcycle; and
WHEREAS, all constitutional and statutory prerequisites for the approval of this
resolution have been met, including but not limited to the Open Meetings Act; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems the adoption of this resolution to be in the best
interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated hereinabove are found to be true and correct
and are incorporated herein by reference as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the sole
source purchase of a police motorcycle from Longhorn Harley-Davidson for an amount
not to exceed $33,420.40.
Section 3. That the City Manager or his designee is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the purchase of said police motorcycle.
Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 20th day of March, 2018.
