Russell Pulley, Director of Golf Golf Board 412-��Z( A?ul_e�� Golf STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Golf Course Advisory Board of the City of Grapevine, Texas met in regular session on this 18th day of October 2018 at 5:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Golf Course, 3800 Fairway Drive, with the following members present: Gary Davis Member Louis Capone Member Bryan Humphreys Member Tom Kormondy Member Robert Blalock Member Jonathan Wall Member Ronnie Hatley Member Tom Cherry Member Deborah Gore Member Constituting a quorum, with the following members of the City Staff: Russell Pulley Director of Golf Mike Lease City Council Member Robert Singletary Head Golf Professional Merlin Tielkemeier Superintendent (absent) Trey Poskey Assistant Superintendent CALL TO ORDER Gary Davis called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. ITEM 1 - Summary of Golf Ouerations 4'" Quarter & Discussion (Russell Pulley) Russell reported on the 0 quarter operations of2018 vs. 2017. Russell reported that the 2018 0 quarter was down from 2017 with a YTD being fairly flat to 2017. Russell reported that merchandise sales were up for 2018 primarily due toequipment sales and GGA winnings. The biggest impact on the 4'h quarter was the weather, with February being very cold and wet, July very hot (13 days of 100+ temps.), and September being the third wettest on record. Successes: Jr Academy, PGA Junior League and Get Golf Ready programs continue to grow. Overall Golf instruction continues to grow promoting more golf activity, range activity as well as increased merchandise sales. Challenges: Weather being the big factor. Very hot (top 5 hottest on record with 13+ days of] 0o+ temps), and September being the wettest on record. Fairway Drive closing on August 13 and not scheduled to reopen until sometime in 2019 was another contributing factor along with the weather. ITEM 2 — Clubhouse Project undate & Discussion (Russell Pulley) Russell reported that Thiel and Thiel had been hire as the Architect ofrecord for the Clubhouse Project. An RFP for CMAR (construction Manager at Risk) will be the next step scheduled in the upcoming weeks. Site Location has yet to be determined with a possibility of 3 possible sites: existing site, east of the current clubhouse between cart barn and Big putting green, and west of Concourse between concourse and practice range. Bryan Flumpheys ask about parking lot changes and how it might be paid for as well as the possibility of using solar Panels to help with possible cost savings. ITEM 3 — Instructional Program update (Jr Academy Jr League Get Golf Ready) (Robert Singletary) Robert reported on the growth ofthe Grapevine Golf Academy, The PGA Junior League involvement and the Get Golf Ready programs that the Golf Course is involved with. The Academy continues to grow, but slowly as expected. Junior camps, PGA Junior League matches and Get Golf Ready classes continue to be full with additional Get Golf ready classes needing to be added. ITEM 4 — Golf Course Maintenance Report (Tray Poskey) Asst. Supt. Tray Poskey in Merlin's absence reported that July and August were dry and super wet in September and October. Overseeding of all tees, both golf course and practice range as well as target greens on practice range is scheduled for early October. Fescue to be seeded under tree areas is scheduled also. Tray reported that they had been fighting some disease on the greens due to all the recent rains, mainly on the big purring green. Tom Cherry asked about tree trimming and Tray reported that this is a winter project that is done more during the winter slower months when not consumed with the mowing that is needed. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES Consideration to approve the minutes from the July 19, 2018 meeting were approved with Tom Kormondy making the motion to approve the minutes and Robert Blalock with a second to the motion.
