Trer/ t Kelley, Recreati Manager GRAPEVINE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY BOARD Minutes of Tuesday, December 4, 2018 Meeting The REC of Grapevine 1175 Municipal Way Grapevine, TX 76051 817.410.3465 Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:46 pm on December 4, 2018 at The REC of Grapevine. The following were present: Trent Kelley, Recreation Manager Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor Dick Guckel, Chairperson Duff O'Dell, City Council Liaison Linda Troeger, Housing Authority Liaison Christine Szymaszek, GRACE Liaison Carey Miller Pam Price Roger Jones Those not present: Tena Burrell Isabelle Boyd, REC Liaison Barbara Johnson 2. Welcome Guests None Consideration of Minutes for October 2, 2018 Meeting Approved 4. Citizen Requests none Informational Items • City Council report — Duff O'Dell Grapevine is the Christmas Capital of Texas and expects record numbers of people this year. The Parade of Lights is Thursday, December 6. Page 1 of 3 The ribbon cutting for the railroad is December 31. Train begins running January 5 and will be free for two weeks. Working on the hotel now. The depot will be last. Marketing is working on a name for the area. Dallas Road will be going through some development with medians in the middle, crosswalks and landscaping. Janis Roberson, Library Director, retires at the end of January. Housing Authority report — Linda Troeger This Friday is the annual Christmas party at the Elks Club and The REC is supplying transportation. Online applications for the waiting list for the public housing program are accepted December 14 at 9 AM through December 15 at 6 PM. The computer lab at The REC will be open along with the Grapevine library. GRACE report— Christine Szymaszek Thanksgiving baskets were distributed instead of commodities to 83 households. Christmas baskets will be distributed December 12. Help was provided to two households evicted from Housing. Help was offered to a man with cataracts. Healthy cooking classes will take place in January at the Clinic. Offices and the Food Pantry moved to 837 E Walnut. The Clinic will be moved there in 2 weeks. There is an Open House on December 11, 4-7 PM at the Christmas Cottage. One can get Christmas food at the Food Pantry December 19-21, but must sign up at the main office first. Christmas Spirit gifts will be delivered to 85 seniors on December 15. The REC report — Trent Kelley Santa is appearing at The REC periodically. Staff is working on the Oak Grove softball fields. Mitchell House is undergoing renovations. Outdoor exercise equipment is being installed in The REC Courtyard as a joint project between FOGSAC and the City. Active Adult Supervisor — Eileen Hinson The annual Active Adult Christmas party will be held on December 18, 5-8 PM. A group is attending 'The Gift of Christmas" at Prestonwood Church on December 8. Transportation is provided on December 14 to the Gaylord for people to view the decorations. Page 2 of 3 A Noon Year's Eve party will take place on December 31 beginning at 10 AM.
