PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR CRAP '1'IY r c s To day 's Presentation • Brief Overview • Current Plan • Proposed Modifications • Discussion • Requested Action? GRU Y Y r c a s Overview • The purpose of the MTP is to: 1 . Establish a network of major roadways with appropriate spacing, connectivity, and cross sections that supports surrounding land use, answers travel demand, and ensures mobility; 2. Preserve the needed right-of-way through the platting and development process; and 3 . Provide a basis for developers' participation in delivery of the network. • The Plan was first adopted in 1968 via ordinance and periodically updated ( 1987 and. 2006) and amended (2017). GRA Y Y r c sr Current MTP • Eight roadway classifications and five right- of-way widths; developed in 1987 — Overly complex — Administratively burdensome • Terminates at corporate limits and at DFW Airport boundary — Coordination is critical to mobility • Network is substantially complete — Major Arterials mostly on DFW property — Few Minor Arterials & Collectors left to construct CRAP '1'IY r c s Goals of Proposed Update • Apply best practices: — Review for appropriate thoroughfare spacing — Fit cross-section requirements to travel demand, existing constraints, and surrounding land use • Support mobility: Address missing connections • Improve coordination: Incorporate plans of adjacent jurisdictions • Simplify: Reduce number of classifications and right-of-way widths UU V Recommendation # I • Remove Wall Street from MTP — Built one block from Northwest Hwy; standard spacing is one-quarter mile between facilities — Current Plan's expansion is inconsistent with adjoining development J I J Wall Street E DOPE LOOP RD _ removed from plan E NORTHWEST HWY a WALL ST LALA J d sr m DALLAS RD r4`.'
