SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF FIRE RESCUE EQUIPMENT
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the approval of the purchase of fire rescue
equipment from Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists, Inc. for the Fire
Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds for this purchase are currently available in account 100-42281-210-
003 (Apparatus and Tools) for a total amount not to exceed $23,773.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for rescue equipment to enhance capabilities of
stabilizing vehicles and removing people from larger vehicles and mass
transit (TEXRail) vehicles. The equipment will help stabilize rail cars and
buses so they remain stable as the passengers are treated and removed if
involved in an accident. The purchase also replaces some of the
equipment that is at its end of life.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative
(BuyBoard) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271
and Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to Metro
Fire Apparatus Specialists, Inc. The Fire and Purchasing staff reviewed
the contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would best meet the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
