Russell Pulley, Director of Golf Golf Board Golf STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF TARRANT CITY OF GRAPEVINE The Golf Course Advisory Board of the City of Grapevine, Texas met in regular session on this 18th day of April 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Golf Course, 3800 Fairway Drive, with the following members present: Gary Davis Member Louis Capone Member City Council Member Bryan Humphreys Member Tom Kormondy Member Robert Blalock Member Jonathan Wall Member Ronnie Harley Member Tom Cherry Member Deborah Gore Member Constituting a quorum, with the following members of the City Staff: Russell Pulley Director of Golf Mike Lease City Council Member Robert Singletary Head Golf Professional Merlin Tielkemeier Superintendent CALL TO ORDER Gary Davis called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. ITEM 1- Summary of Golf Operations 2nd Quarter & Discussion (Russell Pulley) Russell reported on the 2" qtr. operations of 2019 vs. 2018. Rounds and revenue were down primarily due to weather (rain) and Fairway Drive closure. Russell reported that weather (rain) impacted 46% ofthe total days open for the three months and 56% ofthe weekend days open (Friday -Sat. Sun.) for the three months. Gary Davis ask ifevents help and Russell reported that the majority ofour events are held Mon. - Thu. and not on the weekends due to the consistent amount of heavy bookings that we receive. Tom Kormondy ask about the presence of Tim Brantley's The Golf Station. Robert reported our partnership with Tim and his company the Golf Station and the benefits to the Course. ITEM 2 — Club hse onProject update & Discussion (Russell Pullev) Russell reported that the COE approved the foundation testing and approval ofthe site with a few more documents required. Russell reported that at the Facilities Committee meeting the day before (4/17) Thiel and Thiel did and overview ofthe clubhouse along with some ofthe potential finishing materials that could be used Gary Davis suggested that Thiel and Thiel come back to the GolfAdvisory Board with a presentation for possible input from the Board when things get a little further along and things are a little more determined, possibly the July meeting. ITEM 3 - GPS Update (Robert Singletary) Robert reported on the change out ofthe GPS systems from IZONE to IPAR , a completely different company. This change was due to IZONE having difficulties getting their system to operate properly. Robert reported that there was a considerable cost savings as an added bonus to getting a system that works very well and meets our needs. ITEM 4- Instructional Program update Or Academy lr Leaeue Get Golf Readv) (Robert Singletary) Robert reported that the Junior Golf Academy continues to grow but a slowly. Sign up for the PGA Junior Golf League is filling up (The Grapevine Geckos) for the upcoming season that will begin in late May. Eric Hunt's Get Golf Ready classes continue to.fill with new Level sessions being added at student's request. ITEM 5 Golf Course Maintenance Report (Merlin Tielkemeier) Merlin reported that grass was greening up but warmer temps. were needed for growth. Merlin reported on the upgrade to the older irrigation System due to the older system becoming obsolete making it difficult locating replacement parts as well as software malfunctions. The new upgrade is in place on the Bluebonnet Nine as well as the Driving Range. The remainder of Mockingbird and Pecan will be done in upcoming years. The new System is also much more efficient in watering. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES Consideration to approve the minutes from the January 17, 2018 meeting were approved with Tom Kormondy making the motion to approve the minutes and Lou Capone with a second to the motion.
