HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 01 - CanvassUPDATED MEMO MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MAY 15, 2019 SUBJECT: CANVASS GENERAL ELECTION RECOMMENDATION: Consider a resolution canvassing the May 4, 2019 City Election for City Council Place 3 and City Council Place 4; declaring the results; and take any necessary action. BACKGROUND: Tarrant County has finalized the results of the election. The results below have been updated to reflect the final results. The unofficial results are as follows - City Council, Place 4 Absentee arly Voting Election Day Total % Darlene Freed 23 1,799 811 2,633 100% Under Votes 2 436 220 658 20% The updated resolution is attached. By adoption of the proposed resolution, Leon Leal is declared duly elected to City Council, Place 3 and Darlene Freed is declared duly elected to City Council, Place 4. WMI RESOLUTION NO. 2019-024 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE MAY 4, 2019 GENERAL ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING COUNCIL MEMBERS TO CITY COUNCIL PLACE 3 AND CITY COUNCIL PLACE 4 AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, there came to be considered the returns of an election held on the 4th day of May, 2019 for the purpose of electing the hereinafter named officials, as appearing from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at said election 3,290 valid and legal votes; and WHEREAS, each of the candidates in said election received the following votes: CITY COUNCIL PLACE 3 LeonLeal............................................................................................ 2,142 LemoineWright................................................................................... 1,103 UnderVotes............................................................................................. 46 CITY COUNCIL PLACE 4 DarleneFreed..................................................................................... 2,633 UnderVotes........................................................................................... 658 WHEREAS, all legal prerequisites for the adoption of this resolution have been met, including but not limited to the Local Government Code and the Open Meetings Act; and WHEREAS, the City Council hereby declares that the approval of this resolution is in the best interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the public. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and are incorporated herein by reference as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That said election was duly called; that notice of said election was given in accordance with law; and that said election was held in accordance with law; and that the following named persons were duly elected to the office indicated: City Council Place 3 .......................................... That the said above persons are hereby declared duly elected to said respective office, subject to the taking of the oath and filing bond as provided by the laws of this State and the ordinances of this City.
