SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF A NEW DIRECTIONAL DRILL
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the purchase of a new directional drill
from Vermeer of Texas for the Public Works Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds for this purchase are available in account 177-48860-101-002-2015
(Machinery and Equipment) for a total amount not to exceed $140,026.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for a new Vermeer D23X30111 directional drill and trailer.
This equipment will be used to support the joint Fiber Project between the
City and GCISD.This purchase is an upgrade from current unit and will
provide enhanced operations, not only in drilling speed, but in difficult soil
conditions.
Total cost of the new unit is $214,026 with a trade in value of $74,000
providing a net cost of $140,026.
This purchase will be made in accordance with an existing interlocal
agreement with The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative
(BuyBoard) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271
and Texas Government Code, Chapter 791.
Bids were taken by the Cooperative and a contract was awarded to Site
Source, Inc. The Parks and Recreation and Purchasing staff reviewed the
contract for departmental specification compliance and pricing and
determined that the contract would best meet the needs of the City.
Staff recommends approval.
