SUBJECT: PRESENTATION - TARRANT COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH
In 2004, the City of Grapevine terminated its agreement with the City of Euless for food
service, public swimming pool, and day care health regulation, and signed an interlocal
agreement with Tarrant County Public Health to administer these services.
Tarrant County provides plan review, inspection, administration, and consultation for
environmental health standards relative to food service establishments (including
restaurants, mobile food vendors, festival vendors, etc). Tarrant County manages all
administrative functions for these establishments, including conducting food handler classes,
issuing permits, and performing inspections. In general, food service establishments receive
two inspections per year. Daycare centers and public swimming pools (including apartment
and hotel) are also reviewed and inspected for environmental health compliance with city,
county, state, and federal laws.
It is important to understand that not only does Tarrant County provide routine periodic
inspections of existing facilities and sites, but is also involved in the design and construction
process for new establishments. County officials participate in the plan review process,
helping to prevent problems prior to the construction phase. They also provide periodic
inspections throughout construction of new projects.
Tarrant County provides a monthly inspection report to the Development Services Director.
This report, in the form of inspection scores, is posted on the City of Grapevine website. The
report is also included in the City Council weekly update. An annual summary report is
provided at the end of the fiscal year.
