SUBJECT: CONSIDER APPROVAL TO PURCHASE FIREARMS AND
ACCESSORIES FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval to purchase firearms and accessories from GT
Distributors in the total amount of$40,250.40.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are budgeted in accounts 114-44686-209-2 Special Revenue Fund/
Expense(209)State Forfeiture/Law Enforcement/ State Forfeitures.
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made in accordance with a cooperative purchase agreement with
the State of Texas through Term Contracts established by the State as allowed by
Texas Local Government Code, Title 8, Subtitle C, Chapter 271, Subchapter D and
Section 2155.202 and 2175.001(1). Contracts established through the cooperative
purchasing agreement satisfy all bidding requirements under the Local Government
Code. The term contract number is 680-A1 and is effective from 1/1/2010 through
10/31/2010.
This purchase is for 98 Glock Firearms and 20 Glock Slide Releases through a State
Contract established with GT Distributors. The Police Department has standardized on
Glock firearms because purchasing a wide variety of handguns results in the need to
purchase different types of ammunition and holsters to accommodate the assortment. In
addition, the inability to buy equipment and ammunition in bulk results in increased costs
to the City. Standardization of handguns creates uniformity, increases interoperability,
and allows for cost-saving bulk purchases of parts, accessories, and related equipment.
Staff recommends approval of the purchase of the Firearms and Slide Releases from
GT Distributors, Inc. in the total amount of$40,250.40.
