SUBJECT: CONSIDER APPROVAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF POLICE
WEAPON LASER LIGHTS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval to purchase 95 Laser Weapon Lights from RSR
Group, Inc. for the Police Department in the total amount of$18,528.80.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 114-44686-209-2 Expense (209) State
Forfeiture/Community Distributions/Law Enforcement/State Forfeitures.
BACKGROUND:
Quotations were taken in accordance with city purchasing policy. Formal bids and
advertisements are not required for purchases under $50,000. Three vendors submitted
quotations. A copy of the bid tabulation listing all pricing received is attached for review.
This request is to purchase 95 Laser Weapon Lights for the Police Department.
Currently officers are not provided a weapon light for their handgun. Weapon lights
attach directly to the handgun, allowing both hands to remain on the weapon for a better
grip resulting in better marksmanship. The laser aspect provides a quick target
acquisition when needed and may help to diffuse a potential deadly threat without using
deadly force. With the recent approved purchase of standard handgun weapons for the
officers, this will be another step in standardizing equipment so that all officers will be
familiar with their functions.
Bids were solicited from three vendors with three vendors responding. The lowest bid
received was from RSR Group, Inc. RSR Group, Inc. met all of the specification
requirements listed by Police Department and has successfully provided equipment to
the City in the past.
Staff recommends approval to purchase the 95 Laser Weapon Lights from RSR Group,
Inc. in the total amount of$18,528.80.
