HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 12 - CDBG Program ITEM # 2 MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MAY 18, 2010 SUBJECT: 35TH YEAR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) PROGRAM -- CONTRACT APPROVAL RECOMMENDATION: City Council consider approving the award by Tarrant County of a contract with Stabile & Winn, Inc. in the amount of$235,879.50 for the 35TH Year Community Development Block Grant street reconstruction project, authorize staff to forward the approval recommendation to Tarrant County officials, and take and necessary action. FUNDING SOURCE: CDBG funding for construction of this project is in the amount of$173,752.77. City of Grapevine funding participation in an amount of$85,714.68 is available in the Street PCMF, Account # 174-43301-090. This City participation will fund the balance of the construction costs and provide a 10% contingency. BACKGROUND: This project consists of the street reconstruction of the 500 and 800 blocks of E.Worth with a new asphalt roadway section with concrete curb and gutter. The road will be a typical residential section, 31' in width from back of curb to back of curb and will have a four foot sidewalk along the south side of the road to improve pedestrian access to Faith Christian School. These improvements will contribute to the upgrade of the CDBG Target area. The public hearing for this project was conducted on January 20, 2009. Design began in the summer of 2009, once funds were available from HUD. There were a total of five bidders on this project. The bids were as follows: CONTRACTOR BASE BID Stabile &Winn, Inc. $ 235,879.50 McClendon Construction $ 243,887.50 Quality Excavation $ 247,332.30 Smith Contracting $ 294,343.75 2L Construction $ 312,640.00 The low bidder, Stabile &Winn, Inc., has been identified as an acceptable choice for this type of project.
