SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF A DATA STORAGE SYSTEM FOR
INFORMA T ION TECHNOLOGY
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval to purchase a data storage system from Parity
Consultants for network data storage. The total cost is not to exceed $67,794.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325-48860-000-00-0004
(Capital EquipmentlMachinery Purchase Fund/Machinery and Equipment).
BACKGROUND:
Invitations to bid were issued at the request of the Information Technology department
and. bid documents were issued in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter
252, Subchapter B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid
advertisements were posted in the Fort Worth Star Telegram on June 11, 2010 and
June 18, 2010. The bid was opened publicly on June 28, 2010.
The purchase of The SAN (Storage Area Network) is a network of storage disks that are
used to store data. All of the City's data is currently stored on the SAN along with the
virtualization of most City servers. The additional SAN units will be used to expand the
existing SAN cluster as well as to increase data storage space resulting
in increased data access speed and network performance.
Staff issued bid documents to six vendors. Two vendors submitted offers. A tabulation of
the bids is attached for review. Parity Consultants submitted the lowest bid meeting
specifications. Parity Consultants has provided service in the past to the City of
Grapevine with satisfactory results.
Staff recommends approval to purchase the Data Storage System from Parity
Consultants in the total amount of$67,794.
