SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT AWARD TO PURCHASE SEVEN
CABINS AND CAMP STORE FOR THE VINEYARDS
CAMPGROUND
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider an award of a bid to Athens Park Homes for the purchase of
seven cabins and camp store to be installed at the Vineyards Campground. The bid total
was $267,524.00.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding is provided from 176-48840-008 a future Certificate of Obligation
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B,
Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement posted in the Fort
Worth Star Telegram on July 23, 2010 and July 30, 2010.
This request is to approve the purchase, site delivery and complete set-up of seven
cabins and camp store at the Vineyards Campground. The bid tabulation is attached for
review.
In October of 2009, the City Council approved Jacob Engineering Group to design the
improvements to The Vineyards Campground and Cabins. Part of those improvements
included the addition of seven new full service cabins and a camp store. The existing
cabins acquired in 2006, generated revenue equal to their cost in 20 months. The vendor
for the original models has gone out of business.
Specifications for the seven cabins and camp store were sent to twelve vendors and two
vendors responded with bids that were both under budget. The lowest bid received that
met all bid requirements was from Athens Park Homes in Athens, Texas. The successful
bidder states that the City could expect shipment of the first units as early as the middle
of October. Once received, coordination for the construction of decks and skirting will be
done by city staff. A target schedule for rental availability is the middle of November.
Two members of the Council Facilities Committee, Sharron Spencer and Mike Lease,
took a field trip with staff to Athens Park Homes on Monday, August 30th to select the
interior treatments for the seven cabins and camp store.
