HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 08 - Portable Radios ITEM # l� MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER Vi)ll -- MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 2, 2010 SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF PORTABLE RADIOS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of a purchase order to Motorola for the purchase of one hundred and three (1.03) Motorola Radios through an interlocal agreement with the Houston-Galveston Area Council in the total amount of$316,991.80. FUNDING SOURCE.: Funds are available in Lease Fund Account 325.42281-209-11-2011 Apparatus and Tools. BACKGROUND: This purchase was made in accordance with an existing interlocal agreement with the Houston Galveston Area Council (HGAC) as allowed by Texas Local Government Code, Section 271.102. This interlocal agreement satisfied all bidding requirements under the Local Government Code HGAC bid this commodity and established a contract with Motorola under contract number RA01-08. The Police Department asks that Council approve this purchase of 103 public safety radios from Motorola through a contract with HGAC. By issuing the purchase order on September 30, 2010, the City was able to take advantage of a promotion offered by Motorola which saved the City $37,700 from the quoted price. These radios will replace a like number of portable and mobile radios whose technology is now obsolete and no longer supported by the manufacturer. As mandated by the State of Texas, these new radios will be APCO Project 25 compatible, ensuring interoperable communications with Metroplex, state and federal agencies now and as new radio systems are installed. This purchase will complete the phase-in of interoperable radios in the Police Department which are technologically modern and supported by Motorola. Staff recommends approval of a purchase order to Motorola for the purchase of 103 Motorola Radios through an interlocal agreement with the Houston-Galveston Area Council in the total amount of $316,991.80.
