SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE AWARD OF AN INFORMAL REQUEST FOR
QUOTE FOR STORAGE BUILDING REPLACEMENT
RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval for the award of an informal request for
quote for a storage building replacement from Morris General
Construction, Inc. for the Public Works Department.
FUNDING SOURCE: Funds for this purchase are currently available in 200-43370-534-000
(W/W Treatment Infrastructure) for an amount not to exceed $33,250.
BACKGROUND: This purchase is for the replacement of an existing storage building that
was constructed in 1959 at the Wastewater Treatment Plant and is used
for storing spare parts. The building is no longer structurally sound and
must be replaced. The bid includes demolition, expansion of the
foundation, and construction a new 36'x16' brick building.
Informal quotes were taken in accordance with the City Purchasing Policy.
Formal bids and advertisements are not required for purchases under
$50,000. Three quotes were submitted as noted below. Morris General
Construction, Inc. submitted the lowest quote meeting specifications.

Alliance Construction Specialties $35,750
Excel Construction Group $39,500
Staff recommends approval.
