The City of Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met October 1, 2019 at 3:30 p.m.
in the Administration Conference Room at The REC of Grapevine, 1175 Municipal Way,
Grapevine, Texas with the following members present, to -wit:

Call to Order
Dick Guckel called the meeting to order at 3:32 p.m.
Invocation
A moment of silence was observed.
Approval of Minutes
A motion was made by Teri Rhodes -Cantu and seconded by Carey Miller to approve
the minutes for the August 6, 2019 meeting.
Ayes: Guckel, Burrell, Jones, Miller, Davis, Ramsey, Price, Rhodes -Cantu, Boyd,
Szymaszek

Informational Items
• City Council report — Duff O'Dell
Tonight is National Night Out.
Apartment capacity is high in Grapevine; an affordable housing issue exists.

Online applications for the waiting list were taken August 22-24. 1,359
applications received.
GRACE report — Christine Szymaszek
Currently there are 116 individual clients in the Friends & Family program.
There are no geographical boundaries for assisting clients; consequently
funds go quickly particularly for rent.
Commodities were delivered to 91 people.
Rusty Thigpen retired; Keith Hills is the new pantry manager.
The Gala event is October 26.
GRACE is working with the Chamber Women's Division on the Christmas
Spirit wish list for seniors.

October is breast cancer awareness month; The REC has various activities
occurring during the month.
City spray grounds are now closed.
In partnership with Baylor Scott & White, Matter of Balance is being offered
this month.
Active Adults will be attending the State Fair on October 3, 10 and 17.
Empowering Seniors is October 4.
The REC is participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's on October 12.
There will be a Veterans Day event with the chorus on November 7.
Consideration of the Revised Board Format
Agreement was reached to have quarterly meetings on the first Tuesday of January,
April, July and October at 1 p.m. An informational presentation will be made in addition
to a business meeting.
Adjourn
A motion was made by Pam Price and seconded by Roger Jones to adjourn the
meeting at 4:33 p.m.
