CALL TO ORDER Chairman Ratliff called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. and thanked all for attending and thanked the Nash Farm staff for the meal, A Field Hands' Supper; and the music of the Lone Star String Band. He introduced and thanked Council members present, the Grapevine Heritage Foundation (GHF) board members and Heritage and Preservation staff members for attending the annual meeting. II. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizen comments. Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Advisory Board is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen Comments. 1 November 08,2018 08 November 2018 III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Melva Stanfield made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the October 17, 2018 meeting. Balla Wright seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Perkins, Fray, Hummer and Jensen) Nays: None Absent: (Franks and Stinson) YEAR IN REVIEW Chairman Ratliff called on Festival and Events Manager Barry Feldner to come forward with his guest Mr. Bob Dezzany, Chairman and Founder of the Italian Car Club of the Southwest. Mr. Feldner asked GHF Treasurer Balla Wright to join them to receive a check from the car club to Nash Farm for hosting their fall Italian car and vehicles show. Treasurer Wright thanked them and accepted the check on behalf of Nash Farm. Chairman Ratliff called board member Frances Jensen forward to report on the 12th Annual Candlelight Tour of Homes on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Ms. Jensen gave a brief overview of the tour and noted the importance of the community interaction and involvement the tour brings to homeowners, docents and tour guests. The upcoming National Trust for Historic Preservation Conference was previewed by Heritage Programs Manager David Klempin. Mr. Klempin reported this year's conference would be held in San Francisco and said two Councilmen, The Chairman of the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) Managing Director of Administration & Operations Paula Newman, board members and staff would be attending the following week. Chairman Ratliff reported on the Texas Main Street program with monthly reports and the once a year 10 Criteria Report" to document our Main Street accomplishments; Grapevine continues to maintain its title as a National Main Street City. MEMBERSHIP REPORT Janet Perkins, GHF Secretary and Membership Committee Chair, reported the foundation had been stable this year in retaining 220 active members. Contributions and membership dues of $12,305 and donations of $26,440 had been received for the year. She thanked the community for their generous donations and sponsorships in 2018. Secretary Perkins announced the 2019 GHF calendars would be distributed this evening as a special gift and benefit of membership; she thanked new board member Courtney Fray for her beautiful graphic design work and tenacity in producing the calendar publication on schedule for distribution at the Foundation's Annual Meeting. 2 November 08,2018 08 November 2018 PALACE THEATRE Frances Jensen announced during the past year the Palace Arts Center held 378 events with a total attendance of 52,131 guests and 113 performing visual arts events with an economic impact of $1,876,716. The British Emporium celebrated their 25th Anniversary at the Palace and many acts as William Lee Martin's comedy show, several of Kraig Parker's Elvis Presley shows, the Manhattan Short International Film Festival and 67 movies were shown. The 2017 Christmas shows featured the GENTRI-The Gentlemen Trio's Forever Young Christmas, Kraig Parker's Elvis Hometown Christmas, Ricki Derek and Rocky Gribble's Grapevine Opry Christmas. Managing Director of Operations Paula Newman reported on the many improvements to the Palace Arts Center to maintain as a number one attraction for Main Street with exterior restorations and work on the roof, interior painting and new carpeting and updated cabling with the latest in audio visual boards. NASH FARM REPORT Vice Chair Melva Stanfield thanked Nash Farm Manager Cody Jolliff for a wonderful year at the farm with his leadership and vision and his staff members Kimberly Prack and Enoch Doubledee. Vice Chair Stanfield reported the farm hosted new workshops and events while maintaining and expanding the traditional events of the past. These events were supported by over 4,600 hours from the Nash Farm Farmhands and volunteers; she called for a round of applause. Nash Farm had a large increase in daily visitation, programming and special events with all increasing dramatically. The Farm's sponsorships were at an all-time high under the leadership of Treasurer Balla Wright with over $96,000 raised through programming and mission partners Wright Construction and National Bank of Texas' support, a round of applause was given in appreciation of Treasurer Wright's hard work and success. Improvements had been made in the Farm Store inventory and restoration of the restrooms, painting and maintenance of the Soil Conservation Office, pole barn and the Boy Scouts project repainting the Historic Barn. Vice Chairman Stanfield invited all to come back and be a part of the upcoming Christmas festivities. Farm Manager Cody Jolliff reported on the upcoming Skills & Trades Conference from January 24-27, 2019. Chairman Ratliff reported the GHF Speakers Bureau under the direction of board member Sue Franks has been on the speaking trail this year! And the Scholarship Committee, under the direction of Treasurer Wright, awarded two scholarships. 2018 VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION AWARD Chairman Ratliff thanked all who attended for their support, the advisory board members, Farmhands and all volunteers. He presented the 2018 Nash Farm Volunteer 3 November 08,2018 08 November 2018 Appreciation Award to Ken and Anne Murray of Workhorse Ranch and Olde TY me Carriage Co. in Boyd. The Murrays are well known for their many years of expert training of horses and for their many years of support to Nash Farm in sharing their animals and their love of history to teach our heritage to so many.
