HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2013-031RESOLUTION NO. 2013 -31 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, ENDORSING THE PURCHASE OF THREE ARTICULATED LOUNGE CARS FROM BEN GARRETT, JR. AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, The City of Grapevine began operation of a steam excursion train between Grapevine and Fort Worth in December 2001; and WHEREAS, railroading is an integral part of the history of Grapevine; and WHEREAS, the establishment of the Cotton Belt Railroad Historic District ensures the recognition of the importance of railroading to the community; and WHEREAS, the excursion train is an icon of the Grapevine tourism industry through regular runs, charters, and special events such as Day Out With Thomas and North Pole Express; and WHEREAS, Ben Garrett, Jr. has agreed to sell the above listed equipment to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad for the sum of $60,000.00; and WHEREAS, the Convention & Visitors Bureau and the City Manager recommend the purchase of said equipment from Ben Garrett, Jr. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated in the preamble are true and correct and incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That the Grapevine Vintage Railroad purchase from Ben Garrett, Jr. three articulated lounge cars in an as -is condition. Section 3. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the expenditure of $90,000.00 and the appropriation of $90,000.00 from the CVB fund (Unappropriated Fund Balance) Account #115 - 44582 - 350 -07. Section 4. That on receipt of payment, Ben Garrett, Jr. will provide to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad a bill of sale. Section 5. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its passage.
