SUBJECT: CONSIDERA RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF GRAPEVINE AS A
RUNNER FRIENDLY COMMUNITY
RECOMMENDATION:
The Parks&Recreation Advisory Board and staff recommends the City Council approve a
resolution supporting Grapevine as a Road Runners Club of America, "Runner Friendly
Community". The resolution is attached for review.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers (LGRAW) asked the City of Grapevine to
support the designation of the city as a "Runner Friendly Community". Staff has been
working with officials from LGRAW in preparing the application to the Road Runners Club
of America. The application deadline is June 1, 2012.
The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board approved the resolution at the April 19, 2012
meeting. The Board and staff recommend approval of the resolution.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, SUPPORTING GRAPEVINE AS A
RUNNER FRIENDLY COMMUNITY; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, Grapevine has over 24 miles of hike and bike trails, 15+ miles of park
roads, and many miles of City sidewalks and streets that provide residents and visitors
with opportunities for running, walking and biking activities to make Grapevine a more
healthy community supporting Baylor Regional Medical Center's Lifestyle Improvement
Challenge; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine supports Lake Grapevine Runners and Walkers
(LGRAW), the local school district and healthy minded organizations in providing running
and walking activities, events and education to support Grapevine as a healthy
community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine approves an average of 15 running and walking
events in the City each year; and
WHEREAS, Grapevine has the desire to become a Road Runners Club of America
"Runner Friendly Community" by supporting Funning and walking events in the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City of Grapevine supports Lake Grapevine Runners and
Walkers' application to the Road Runners Club of America for designation as a "Runner
Friendly Community."
Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 1st day of May, 2012.
