HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11 - Emergency Medical Continuing EducationMEMOTO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: DECEMBER 3, 2019 SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO RENEW AN ANNUAL CONTRACT FOR EMS CONTINUING EDUCATION RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider the renewal of an annual contract for emergency medical continuing education with Best EMS for the Fire Department. FUNDING SOURCE: Upon approval funds are available in the General Fund, Travel Training and Dues (100-44505-210-006) for an amount not to exceed $23,634. BACKGROUND: The Texas Department of State Health Services requires all paramedics to receive a minimum of 144 hours of continuing education every four years. The Grapevine Fire Department utilizes a certified educational service to provide the required training on a monthly schedule. This contract will provide a minimum of 48 continuing education hours per firefighter per year. Informal quotes were taken in accordance with City Purchasing Policy. Formal bids and advertisements are not required for purchases under $50,000. The contract was for an initial one-year period with three, one- year renewal options. If approved, this would be the third renewal available. Staff recommends approval. JS/LW
