MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: APRIL 3, 2012 SUBJECT: CAC FEASIBILITY STUDY BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The expansion and renovation of the Community Activities Center (CAC)was one of the highest priorities to citizens in the Parks & Recreation Master Plan that was approved by the Council in May of 2011. The expansion of the weight and fitness room, indoor aquatics and additional multi-purpose rooms were specifically noted by those surveyed and those participating in focus group. Also, developing the CAC as a multi-generational facility was recommended in the master plan and is supported by seniors at the Senior Activities Center. As a part of the CAC Feasibility Study, five focus groups met on Thursday, March 29th and Monday,April 2"d to give specific input on the expansion and renovation of the CAC. Leon Younger from Pros Consulting will go over the input received from citizens participating in the focus groups and discuss priorities the Council has for the expansion and renovation. Please see the attached list of questions that Mr. Younger will be asking the Council for feedback on. COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES CENTER FEASIBILITY STUDY WORKSHOP QUESTIONS FOR CITY COUNCIL • Are you a user of the Community Activities Center (CAC)? • What are the key components of the CAC that you use, most often? • What has been your experience with the CAC? • What works well? • What areas would you like to see changed to support your needs better? • And your family needs? • The latest trend in community centers is multigenerational centers whereby people of all ages are able to use the center including older adults. Do you see the CAC becoming a multigenerational facility? • What specific components should be included in an expanded CAC? • Indoor aquatic amenities such as a lap pool, lazy river, slides, etc? • Expanded fitness and weight area? • Active adult spaces including lounge, meeting space, kitchen, etc? • What is the minimum expansion you feel the community would want? • Are there program opportunities that you would like to see offered that are not currently offered? • The City currently subsidizes the CAC and user fees are very reasonable • Would you be willing to raise the fees to help subsidize the operations and maintenance of the facility? • What are the greatest obstacles that will have to be overcome to make this project a reality? • Are there other concerns regarding the expansion and renovation of the CAC?
