SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE PURCHASE OF
A PLANETAIR GOLF GREENS AERATOR FROM KD TURF
RENOVATION AND CONSIDER THEM A SOLE SOURCE
VENDOR.
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of a resolution for the purchase of a PlanetAir golf
greens aerator for the Grapevine Golf Course from KD Turf Renovation and consider
them a sole source vendor.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325-48850-340-12 (Capital
Equipment/Machine Purchase Fund/Machinery and Equipment/Lake Enterprise Capital
Acquisitions) in the amount of $23,300.00.
BACKGROUND:
This procurement will be made as a sole source !in accordance with Local Government
Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, Section 252.022 (A) (7) (A). (See attached letter).
This is for a PlanetAir greens aerator made and distributed only by KD Turf Renovation.
This is relatively new technology so the City's Golf personnel closely evaluated the
equipment and determined it will fit the needs of the department. The PlanetAir has the
ability to aerate below the surface of the green with almost no surface disruption. This
will allow golf maintenance to eliminate one of the greens aerations, which always
causes a significant loss of play and revenue for the three to four weeks following a
normal aeration. By having this machine, staff will be able to aerate the greens every
two to three weeks with no inconvenience to the golfer or interruption in play.
Staff recommends approval.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS,AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
OR THE CITY MANAGER'S DESIGNEE TO DECLARE KD
TURF RENOVATION A SOLE SOURCE PROVIDER FOR A
PLANETAIR GREENS AERATOR FOR THE GOLF COURSE
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas is a local government in the State of
Texas and as such is empowered by the Texas Local Government Code Chapter 252,
Subchapter B, Section 252.022 (a) (7) (A) to consider items available from only one
source as an exception to the bidding requirements of the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, KD Turf Renovation is the sole distributor of a PlanetAir greens aerator;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine Golf Course has a need to upgrade the current
greens aerator to make the Golf Course more efficient and player friendly.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2.' That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps
necessary to purchase a PlanetAir greens aerator as a sole source from KD Turf
Renovation in the total amount of$23,300.00.
Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 3rd day of April, 2012.
