FUNDING SOURCE: Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325-42281-101-12 (FY2012 IT update/replacement apparatus and tools) in the amount not to exceed $67,217.02. BACKGROUND: This purchase will be made in accordance with a contract established through the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Cooperative Contracts Program contract #DIR-SDD-1478. The City is allowed to participate in this program through our cooperative membership. Purchases through this program are authorized under Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 271, Subchapter D and Texas Government Code Chapter 2054, Section 2054.0565 (b). This purchase is for the actual desktop devices that will replace our traditional personal computers. These devices will communicate with the virtual desktops running in our server room. This purchase of Pano Logic virtual desktops from Flair Data Systems, Inc. will provide 250 desktop devices, administrative software, and support for these end user devices. Once all parts of the project have been purchased, 250 desktops will be virtualized and run in the IT data center. There are many different ways of achieving desktop virtualization. Pano Logic was selected for two reasons. First, it is the only company to offer a product that works in such a way that most benefits the City. Secondly, the site visits and inquiries to other cities that use Pano Logic were positive and have proven to be successful implementations of this technology. IT staff has selected Flair Data Systems, Inc. as the reseller of Pano Logic. All vendors offered the equipment at about 8% below retail as well. Flair Data Systems has also offered us an additional, one time project credit of$27,889.50. Copies of the quotes are attached. Staff recommends approval.
