HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 15 - Police Vehicles MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: March 20, 2012 SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR THE AWARD OF BID 381-2012 FOR POLICE VEHICLES FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of the award of Bid 381-2012 for the purchase of police vehicles from Reliable Chevrolet for the Police Department. The total cost of this purchase is not to exceed $571,030.35. FUNDING SOURCE: Funding for this purchase is currently available in account 325-48910-209-12 (Capital Equipment/Machine Purchase Fund/Motor Vehicles/Police) total cost not to exceed $107,638.72 and 325-48910-117-12 (Capital Equipment/Machinery Purchase Fund/ Motor Vehicles/ Police CCPD Fund), total cost not to exceed $463,391.63. BACKGROUND: Bids were taken liiiirm accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 205.041 (a). The bid advertisement was posted Feb. 23, 2012 and March 1, 2012. The bid was opened publicly on March 9, 2012. Through the City a-Bid system, 15 vendors were invited to bid on these vehicles. Two bids were submitted with a third bid received being a no-bid by Tolunay-Wong Engineers. (See attached bid tabulation.) This purchase is for nine 2012 Chevrolet Police Caprices, seven 2012 Chevrolet Police Tahoes and one 2012 Chevrolet Cargo Van. The Police Department received approval to purchase these vehicles in the Vehicle and Equipment Replacement List for FY2012 on September 13, 2011. Reliable Chevrolet was the lowest responsive and responsible bidder and has provided like vehicles in the past with satisfactory results.
