SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO RENEW AN ANNUAL CONTRACT RFB 3 -
2 12 FOR THE PURCHASE OF HORTICULTURAL CHEMICALS
AND FERTILIZERS
RECOMMENDATION.
City Council to consider approval forte renewal of annual contracts for RFB 380-2012
with Direct Solutions, Helena Chemical Company, Innovative Turf Supply, Winfield
Solutions, LC and BW1 Companies, Inc. forte purchase of horticultural chemicals and
fertilizers.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 100-42205-312-3 (General Fund/Parks and Recreation/
Grounds Maintenance) and 210-42205-340-2 (Lake Enterprise Fund/Golf Course
Maintenance/Grounds Maintenance) in the estimated amount of$135,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement was posted in
the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on March 22, 2012 and March 29, 2012. The bid was
opened publicly on April 13, 2012.
The purpose of this bid is to establish fixed annual pricing for various types of
horticultural chemicals and fertilizers fort Parks and Recreation Department and the
Grapevine of Course. If approved, this will be for the first renewal option of the four
available.
Based on the evaluation of the bid by Purchasing and the Parks and Recreation
Department, it was determined the award be made to each vendor for items they
submitted low bids on. Direct Solutions, Helena Chemical Company, Innovative Turf
Supply, and Winfield Solutions, LLB have agreed to renew with no increase in pricing.
BWI Companies, Inc. has agreed to renew with an increase in pricing from 2% to 6%
due to increases in raw materials and transportation used in the manufacturing of the
products they were awarded.

Direct Solutions, Helena Chemical Company, Innovative Turf Supply, Winfield Solutions,
LLC and BWI Companies, Inc. has provided these products to the City in the past with
successful results.
Staff recommends approval.
