SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO PURCHASE VMWARE SOFTWARE AND
LICENSING SUPPORT FROM PARITY CONSULTANTS FOR
THE CITY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval to purchase VMware software and licensing support
for the Information Technology department from Parity Consultants.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for this purchase are available in account 325-44540-101-12 (Capital Equipment/
Machine Purchase Fund/Professional Services/City ManagerlFY2012 Capital
Acquisitions) in the amount of$43,092.00.
BACKGROUND:
Quotes were taken in accordance with City Purchasing Policy. Formal bids and
advertisements are not required for purchases under $50,000. Three vendors submitted
quotations. A copy of the quote tabulation listing all pricing received is attached for
review.
This purchase will provide VMware licensing and support for seven host servers. This
software will be incorporated in our existing VMware infrastructure and will be used to
administer the virtual desktops in our upcoming virtual desktop project. Once all parts of
the project have been purchased, 250 desktops will be virtualized and run in the IT data
center.
Of the three quotes received, Parity Consultants submitted the lowest quote. Parity
Consultants has provided like service in the past to the City with satisfactory results.
Staff recommends approval.
