SUBJECT: GRAPEVINE— CHRISTMAS CAPITAL DATES
REGOMMENDATI�N: Extend the time period for the Christmas Capital ofi Texas
program by scheduling the Carol of Lights on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
BACKGROUND: The activities for the Christmas Capital currently start the week of
Thanksgiving and end the week after Christmas. Merchants and restaurateurs have
requested that the Christmas Capital activities begin Thanksgiving week.
We are requesting the following changes to the schedule:
Hold the Carol of Lights or a Tree Topping Ceremony the Tuesday before Thanksgiving,
kicking off the lighting and Christmas activities of the Christmas Capital program.
Commence the North Pole Express the weekend before Thanksgiving rather than
waiting until the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Commence the Christmas Capital of Texas activities on Thanksgiving week and the
Christmas on Main activities the day after Thanksgiving.
End all the Christmas Capital of Texas and North Pole Express on the Sunday following
Christmas.
