HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 03 - Surplus Property ITEM MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER"" MEETING DATE: JANUARY 3, 2012 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE DONATION OF SURPLUS PROPERTY TO PARRAS DE LA FUENTE, COAHUILA, MEXICO RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider a resolution for the donation of play equipment to Grapevine's sister city, Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. Please see the attached resolution. BACKGROUND: Funds were approved in the FY 2011-2012 budget to replace the play equipment at the campus of Faith Christian School and the purchase of the new play equipment was approved by the City Council at the November 15th meeting. The Council approved a resolution at the November 4, 2008 meeting to donate play equipment from the Oak Grove Soccer Complex to Parras and that play equipment has been installed by members of the Parras Rotary Club. The citizens of Parras are grateful for their new play equipment. If the Council approves the resolution to donate the used play equipment from the campus of Faith Christian School to Parras, officials from Parras have agreed to come to Grapevine to pick up the equipment to transport to Parras. Play equipment that is removed from the parks is typically cut up and put in the scrap metal bin for recycling. Play equipment is replaced approximately every 12 to 15 years. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, DECLARING CERTAIN PROPERTY SURPLUS AND/OR SALVAGE; PROVIDING FOR THE DONATION OF SAID PROPERTY TO PARRAS DE LA FUENTE, COAHUILA, MEXICO; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, it has been determined that the City of Grapevine is in possession of surplus and/or salvage property; and WHEREAS, one item would be of use to Grapevine's sister city, Parras de I Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That the following item is declared surplus and is donated to Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico: One city-owned play structure from the campus of Faith Christian School which serves as a city neighborhood park for the area Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to make the above item available to Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its passage. PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 3rd day of January, 2012.
