FUNDING: Funds are programmed in the FY 2014 Wastewater PCMF for this work in account 200- 43370- 534 -0. BACKGROUND: Staff has planned for the replacement of the oldest drive unit in the Train 2 Clarifiers in this budget year's Wastewater PCMF. The unit is 27 years old and is in need of rehabilitation. The other clarifier drive unit in Train 2 was replaced three years ago. The drive units in the Train 3 clarifiers are 17 years old and were not anticipated to be addressed in this budget year. Unfortunately, the older drive unit in Train 2 and one of the drive units in Train 3 failed within a few days of each other and left staff with a significantly reduced treatment capacity at the WWTP. Each Train has two clarifiers that provide treatment for four Million Gallons per Day (4 MGD), 1 MGD per clarifier. With two clarifiers down, the plant capacity has been reduced to 2 MGD which is a significant problem since our current flows into the plant are approximately 3 MGD. The contractor on the filter replacement, Red River Constructors, is on site and working adjacent to the clarifiers that need repair. Red River Constructors has been working diligently toward the completion of the filter project and is highly capable and adequately staffed to complete the filter project and repair the clarifiers. Staff recommends approval. R:\AGENDA \2014 \05 -06 -14 \Red River - Clarifier rehab award Rev 1.doc Wastewater Treatment Plant Feet 4/29/2014 1 inch = 200 feet 0 100 200 400
