FUNDING SOURCE: Funding for this purchase is budgeted in the 2013 Fiscal year (Quality of Life Fund) for an amount not to exceed $19,826.52. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This purchase is for the DFW Connector project which has approximately nine closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras throughout the SH 1141121 project areas. These cameras are used by NorthGate and TxDOT to monitor traffic flow and identify incidents. When the project is completed, there will be 19 CCTV cameras in the same area. There are also several additional TxDOT CCTV cameras in Grapevine that are outside the construction project limits. The City has established an agreement with TxDOT allowing for a communications network to be established in order for Grapevine to share access of the video from these cameras. This is important to the Police and Fire departments since these cameras will improve their ability to locate incidents and determine the best approach route for emergency vehicles on freeways. Informal quotes were taken in accordance with the City's Purchasing Policy. Quotes were received from three vendors. The Public Works Department is recommending award to Commercial Wireless Solutions who provided the lowest quote. At the request of the Police Department, $80,000 was approved in the 2013 Quality of Life budget for this project. This purchase will provide for installation of the core radio equipment necessary to bridge the gap between the City and TxDOT networks. Staff recommends approval. MP /BS
