FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER
MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 20, 2012
SUBJECT: CHANGE ORDER #2 AND FINAL STATE HIGHWAY 26
WATERLINE RELOCATION PROJECT
RECOMMENDATION
City Council consider approving: Change Order # 2 and Final to the State Highway 26
Waterline Relocation Project in the amount of $ 30,944.04, authorize staff to execute said
change order, and take any necessary action.
FUNDING:
Funds are programmed for this project in Utility Bonds in account 200- 48930- 534 -7-
000013WA.
BACKGROUND:
City Council approved the SH 26 Waterline Relocation contract with Gin -Spen, Inc. on
October 20, 2009 in an amount of $593,366.00. The scope of the project extended from
just south of Pool Road along the south side of SH 26 for a distance of 8,800 LF.
On April 19, 2011, City Council approved Change Order #1 to add an additional 540 LF of
waterline relocation. This 540 LF segment had initially been designed by our consultant,
but not included in the original construction contract scope because TxDOT had not
acquired the necessary right -of -way for the relocation. This additional right -of -way
acquisition was to be acquired by NorthGate Constructors with the DFW Connector project.
Change Order #2 and Final includes lowering of the 12" waterline crossing at Heritage
Avenue to avoid conflict with a storm drain line being installed with the TxDOT SH 26
widening project. The change order also includes fire hydrant adjustments and cleanup of
pay item quantities. The $30,944.04 figure represents 4.2% of the final contract cost which
is an acceptable figure for existing roadway and utility retrofit construction projects.
Staff recommends approval.
