A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, RENAMING THE GRAPEVINE
CENTRAL FIRE STATION ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
"THE BILLY A. POWERS FIRE ADMINISTRATION
BUILDING" IN HONOR OF FIRE CHIEF BILL POWERS;
AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, Grapevine Fire Chief Bill Powers has announced his resignation to
become effective August 31, 1999; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Bill Powers has served the citizens of the City of
Grapevine in excess of 44 years, beginning his career as a volunteer firefighter in 1955
and progressing through the ranks to the position of Fire Chief in 1984; and
WHEREAS, Chief Powers' services to the community also included thousands of
hours of volunteer work with children as a Little League coach in baseball and football;
and
WHEREAS, Chief Powers is recognized throughout the State fire service industry
K- as a leader in his field and has served for many years as an instructor at the annual
Texas A&M Fire Training School in College Station.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the preamble are found to be true and
correct and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the Fire Administration Building at Grapevine Central Fire
Station, 601 Boyd Drive, be, and is hereafter, renamed the "Billy A. Powers Fire
Administration Building" in recognition of Chief Powers service and dedication to the
citizens of the community and to the Fire Department he served.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 4th day of August, 1999.
