HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 1999-050 RESOLUTION NO. 99-50 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF THE METROPORT CITIES PARTNERSHIPS TO PROMOTE THE NEED FOR TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS IN THE STATE HIGHWAY 114 / STATE HIGHWAY 121 CORRIDOR; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DAT� WHEREAS, State Highway 114 is a critical component of the Northwest Metroplex Regional Transportation System, serving the continually expanding residential communities and employment centers along the corridor between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Fort Worth Alliance Airport; and WHEREAS, the Texas Transportation Commission, in response to the June 1996 delegation appearance of the Metroport Cities Partnership committed over $57 million in Priority 1 Level of Authority construction funding for portions of the State Highway 114 freeway program from State Highway 170 (Roanoke Bypass) now under construction to Dove Road and from Carroll School Road to Farm to Market 1709, and over $12 million in Priority II Level of Authority for the State Highway 114 freeway program from Dove Road to Carroll School Road; and WHEREAS, the construction of freeway mainlanes and grade-separated interchanges through the currently signalized portions of State Highway 114 from Dove Road to Carroll School Road, and from State Highway 114 Roanoke Bypass/Business 114/State Highway 170 to Precinct Line Road would complete the State Highway 114 freeway facility between Farm to Market 1709 and State Highway 170 and thereby greatly enhance through and local access mobility; and WHEREAS, the State Highway 114 / State Highway 121 corridor through the City of Grapevine serves as the principal access to State Highway 114 west of Farm to Market 1709, currently funded for freeway main lane improvements; and WHEREAS, Metroport Cities Partnership, representing the cities of Colleyville, Grapevine, Haslet, Keller, Roanoke, Southlake, Trophy Club and Westlake, has committed to spearhead the efforts of the cities to promote the need for funding in the State Highway 114 / State Highway 121 Corridor; and WHEREAS, the planned efforts shall include, but are not limited to: Consultant Services, Engineering Services, Economic Evaluation Services, Development Implementation Planning, and Lobbying Efforts; and WHEREAS, the funds for these activities are provided by the participating cities; and WHEREAS, the expenditure of the cities' funds shall be approved by the cities collectively prior to any commitments on the part of the Metroport Cities Partnership. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated in the preamble of this resolution are true and correct and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That the City of Grapevine strongly supports the efforts planned by the Metroport Cities Partnership to promote the Transportation Improvement needs in the State Highway 114 / State Highway 121 corridor. Section 3. The City of Grapevine commits $ 20,000 to the Metroport Cities Partnership to assist in the cost of these planned State Highway 114 / State Highway 121 Corridor promotional efforts. Section 4. That this resolution shall become effective from and after the date of its passage.
