HomeMy WebLinkAboutWS Item 2 - Board and Commission Appointment ProcessMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERSOF COUNCIL FROM: • RUMBELOW,MANAGER MEETING DATE: JULY 15, 2014 SUBJECT: WORKSHOP — BOARD AND COMMISSION APPOINTMENT PROCESS The 2014-15 board and commission appointment process was postponed this year until the newly elected Council Member had taken office. During the Workshop on July 1, the City Council discussed the process of appointing members to the various boards and commissions. CURRENT PROCESS • Advertise vacancies • Notify incumbents of expiring terms • Accept applications for vacant positions • Interview new applicants ■ 3 Council Member panels ➢ Leisure Group: Building Board of Appeals, Convention & Visitors Bureau Advisory Board, Golf Advisory Board, Heritage Foundation, Historic Preservation Commission, Parks & Recreation Board ➢ Zoning Group: Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, Board of Zoning Adjustment, Library Board, Planning & Zoning Commission, Senior Citizens Advisory Board ® Council Liaison presents panel's appointment recommendations ® Council makes appointments The Council discussed having the entire Council conduct the interviews using predetermined interview questions. Since the last meeting, Council Members submitted potential interview questions for use in developing the interview questionnaire. 2014-15 PROCESS o Council determines interview questions o New applicants submit interview questionnaire o Schedule Council meeting for interviews o Council conducts interviews and discusses appointments o Council makes appointments With direction from Council, Staff will prepare an interview questionnaire and forward on to the new applicants for completion prior to scheduling an interview with Council. July 9, 2014 (4:11 PM) Possible Interview Questions (as gathered from Council Member input and other Cities) INTEREST 1.
