;�,,, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE TWO FINAL
OPTIONS FOR ADDRESSING THE FUTURE EXCHANGE
SHORTAGE IN THE 817 AREA CODE; ENCOURAGING THE
PUBLIC UTILITY COMMISSION TO ALLOW TARRANT
COUNTY TO KEEP THE 817 AREA CODE; AND PROVIDING
AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine has closely followed the activities of the
Public Utility Commission in its attempt to address the upcoming numbering exchange
shortage in the 817 area code; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, located in Northeast Tarrant County, is
directly influenced by the decision of the Public Utility Commission; and
WHEREAS, the two remaining options for the division of the 817 area code will
both allow Tarrant County, most of Johnson and Parker counties, and parts of Wise
and Denton counties to remain within the same area code; and

WHEREAS, both of the remaining options affect the City of Grapevine in the
� same manner; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine feels that the population of Tarrant County
and the designated parts of the surrounding counties would be best served if they
were allowed to retain the 817 area code, rather than be assigned a new area code.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1 . That all matters stated in the preamble are true and correct and are
incorporated herein as if written in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City of Grapevine supports either of the two remaining
options in addressing the future numbering exchange shortage.
Section 3. That the City of Grapevine encourages the Public Utility Commission
� to allow the City of Grapevine and the remaining areas of Tarrant County to keep the
817 area code.
� Section 4. That this resolution shall become effective from and after the date
of its passage.
