A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
a GRAPEVINE, TEXAS SUPPORTING U.S. SECRETARY OF
EDUCATION RICHARD W. RILEY'S SELECTION OF
GRAPEVINE MIDDLE SCHOOL AS A BLUE RIBBON
SCHOOL
WHEREAS, on February 8, 1996 the U.S. Secretary of Education announced
the selection of 266 public and private secondary schools in 40 states, the District of
Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands as Blue Ribbon schools; and
WHEREAS, in recognizing excellence in teaching and instruction, student
achievement, leadership and parental involvement, the U.S. Department of Education
honors some of the nation's most successful schools; and
WHEREAS, Grapevine Middle School is a testimony to the successes we can
have in American education if we work together to raise standards and focus on the
basics of better schools; and
WHEREAS, the successful schools feature aspects such as challenging
academic standards; rigorous curriculum; disciplined, supportive, safe and drug-free
° environment; excellent teaching; low dropout rates and documented student
achievement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all administrators and teachers of Grapevine Middle School and
the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District are hereby commended by the
City Council and staff of the City of Grapevine for their efforts in receiving this
prestigious award.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 7th day of May , 1996.
