4. EDUCATIONAL SESSION
History of the Evolution of the Nash Farm Restoration Project — David Klempin
Heritage Preservation Programs Manager David Klempin said the Thomas and Elizabeth Nash
property was the oldest operating farmstead in Northeast Tarrant County, he shared photographs of
Thomas and Elizabeth from 1907; and a 1920 photograph of the 1869 Nash Farmhouse. The
Foundation's project goals were to restore and preserve the structures within the period of
significance of 1885 — 1930. A master site plan was prepared to restore the house and outbuildings
with the Historic Barn restoration completed in 2001; a community garden was begun in the Spring of
2002; the late Joe Wright installed utilities and water for the garden and crops. In 2002, they reached
out to Lonn Taylor, a historian from the Smithsonian Institution, for an interpretive plan for Nash Farm
1880 — 1910 period. The Board voted to revise the site plan; built the pole barn, the windmill, cistern,
chicken coop, smoke house, equipment shed, constructed the donor wall and the removal of the bus
lane.
The house paint was researched by a specialist, carefully lifting away the many coats of paint through
the decades, yielding as you now know it as Sherwin Williams' paints SW 6447 Evergreen and SW
6677 Goldenrod.
The property is now a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark (RTHL) and listed on the National Register
of Historic Places. The Donor Wall was erected recognizing the donors who made it all possible.
Vice Chairman Stanfield said it was hard to believe all has been accomplished in 20 years; she
added, Nash Farm, Grapevine Main; Grapevine does it the right way, may take a while - but done the
Right Way!

of 785 visitors to Nash Farm during the month of August. The Farm's First Friday program for
September 4, 2020 was "Waste Not, Want Not" with attendance of 127.
Nash Farm Sponsorship Report — Balla Wright
Treasurer Wright said all sponsorships had been received except for two and she would follow up
with them. She asked all to promote the Harvest Moon Supper emphasizing the family and separate
tables and social distancing. The supper tickets were selling well, Vice Chairman Stanfield noted
tickets were less for this event as the wine would be sold separate.
Nash Farm Up -Coming Events Report — Cody Jolliff
Farm Manager Cody Jolliff announced the Harvest Moon Supper preparations were moving along
well with an overall sprucing up of the Farm for beginning the fall season's events. The annual Barn
Dance is scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.; and to include the Pie Auction again.
He called on the group to sign-up to bake a favorite pie in a glass dish (not to be returned) like those
at County Fairs, and hopefully share a special memory of your recipe to pull at one's heart strings.
Member Courtney Fray volunteered to bake a Dutch Apple pie for the auction.

5. NEW BUSINESS
Select Date for the 2020 Annual Meeting of the Membership — Chairman Curtis Ratliff
Per the Bylaws of The Grapevine Heritage Foundation, Section 1.4 The Annual Membership Meeting
shall be held on a date selected by the board at the September board meeting.
Vice Chairman Stanfield called for discussion.
Sue Franks made the motion to accept the Annual Meeting of the Membership date for Thursday,
November 12, 2020; Becky Hummer seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote:
Ayes: 6 (Stanfield, Wright, Perkins, Franks, Hummer and Nelson)
Zoom: 1 (Fray)
Nays: 0 None
Absent: 2 (Ratliff and Jensen)
Discussion was opened for what would be a safe way to hold the Annual Meeting during the
pandemic. Mr. McCallum asked for suggestions, something very simple to meet our obligation to
meet the bylaws and deliver the information. Member Wendy Nelson proposed sending out a link
with the Annual Meeting Report attached.
Secretary Perkins suggested the annual report also be enclosed with the 2021 calendar mailing to the
membership, such as stock dividends are reported. Mr. McCallum agreed saying a full reporting of
the Foundation in 2020 mailed was an excellent idea, as the pandemic like an act of God does null
previous actions.
Janet Perkins made the motion to create a written annual report of the Foundation's 2020
accomplishments, progress, recognitions and goals, etcetera to be mailed to the membership; Becky
Hummer seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote:
Ayes: 6 (Stanfield, Wright, Perkins, Franks, Hummer and Nelson)
Zoom: 1 (Fray)
Nays: 0 None
Absent: 2 (Ratliff and Jensen)
Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) Report — Paula Newman

site visits were picking up. We are encouraging all to purchase tickets now online to enjoy the Palace

Suffragette trains celebrated the 100th Year Anniversary of women getting the vote; she said the
historic concept really engaged the public with participants dressed in the 1920s clothing, wearing a
message/sandwich board their songs and chants for the Women's Vote.
October is Texas Wine Month! kicks off with the "Harvest Moon Supper" on October 1, then October 2
and 4 are the Jazz Wine Trains with the Saturday October 3, 2020 28th Annual New Vintage Wine &
Gallery Trail and more events throughout the month, finishing up the month with the 37th Annual Lone
Star International Wine Competition here in the Tower Gallery. The wine competition will be set-up to
be viewed from the sidewalk through the windows of the Tower Gallery, at 636 South Main Street.
Mr. McCallum said October is Texas Wine Month! — this weekend, our GrapeFest "was to be
weekend", has been somewhat overshadowed. The Texas Department of Agriculture is our primary
sponsor, helping draw more people into Grapevine to support our wineries and retail with the
awareness of $400 million lost in the cancellations of group conventions.
Ms. Newman said this upcoming weekend's GrapeFest Tennis Classic has 440 entrants. Sunday at 2
p.m. will be the dedication of our latest public art installation of the water sphere "Possible" at the
corner of South Main and Wall Streets to draw more foot traffic to this area. Hotel Vin opened two
weeks ago with the observation tower to open later; Member Sue Franks added Friday night was
great. Wendy Nelson asked about the Butterfly Flutterby event, Mr. McCallum said it will become a
virtual event to include art and costume contests, this is an opportunity to become a larger event with
700 tracking stations for the Monarch butterfly's migration from here to Mexico, most have now
closed; but we will follow with video of the releases and migration.
Mr. McCallum discussed Grapevine public relations to increase hotel stays and visitors on mid -week
days and expanding leisure traffic. The leisure business from five to 155 miles is still strong business,
the hotels on a Wednesday night will be 18-20 percent occupancy, but Friday and Saturday nights
we can have 85-90 percent occupancy. We are trying to expand this leisure travel in to mid -week
nights as well. The Gaylord with 1,812 rooms has 35 percent normal attendance due to the water
park, that equals 800 rooms. Bull Lion Winery has been approved, they will share the historic Gulf
Station with Nomad Outfitters. Landon Winery is expanding to Grapevine and will open in the former
Umbra location; they are now completing the TABC process to participate in the New Vintage Wine &
Gallery Trail.
Mr. McCallum shared with the board that at their next meeting they would learn more of John David
Rule, a farmer from Minco, Oklahoma and the owner of Rule Saddlery & Sculpture. Mr. Rule has
been commissioned for the Chopping Cotton bronze art for Nash Farm. The Joe and Balla Wright
Family, requested upon Joe's passing that memorials to Joe be contributed to Nash Farm to establish
a piece of art recognizing the toil and labor of the farmer and Grapevine's agrarian heritage.
City Council Liaison Update — Council Member Duff O'Dell
Council Liaison O'Dell was called away due to an emergency.
